"becoming yourself is a process" -- I love that line bc it's so true, and I agree that many of these "micro-trends" and various branded aesthetics can become a distraction from true becoming, from listening to yourself and discovering who you actually are and what you actually like!
As someone who’s been consuming social media since 10 years old and got absorbed into “aesthetic” to find myself and my place of belonging, this is also the conclusion and thought that I came to a few months ago and I’ve never feel more free and at peace. Love this article! <3
The worst part about microtrends and subcultures is that within 6 months and 10 years it will be seem as ultimately “cringy” to still like the things or look the way that is trendy now. Thank you for this!!
Hi! I just discovered your work and I’m absolutely in love with your writing. I can’t wait to read everything in detail. I’m Turkish — and I think you love Magnificent Century (the series), which really surprised me in the best way. Such a sweet coincidence! Sending love🩷
i say be messy. mix and match (this is important. a lot of creators who influence this or that aesthetic, often don't show that you can take bits and pieces from other style directions!). experiment until your heart is going to lead towards something that truly makes you - you.
growing up, i would constantly change my style and just have fun with it, until these whole experience brought me to conclusion of what i actually like and find more fitting
